Basic principles for neonatal care

Neonatal health care should begin before the baby is born, through the health care provided to pregnant women. Various forms of early prevention and control of the factors that weakened condition of a pregnant woman needs to be prioritized, such as low nutrition, anemia, proximity between pregnancies, and poor hygiene.otherwise it should also be carried adequate prenatal health coaching and coping factors that cause perinatal death which include: 1) bleeding 2) hypertension 3) infection 4) preterm birth / LBW 5) asphyxia 6) hypothermia.
Research has shown that more than 50% of infant deaths occur in the neonatal period is the first month of life. Less favorable treatment of newborns are born healthy will cause abnormalities that can lead to lifelong disability, and even death. For example, as a result of hypothermia in newborns can lead to cold stress which in turn can lead to hypoxemia or hypoglycemia and cause brain damage. As a result, brain hemorrhage, shock, some hardened body parts, and growth and developmental delay.
Another example, less good airway clearance time of birth can cause gastric fluid influx into the lungs that causes difficulty breathing, acid deficiency, and if this goes on too long can cause brain bleeding, brain damage, and then to developmental delays .
More important is the prevention of infection that can occur through the umbilical cord at the time of cutting the umbilical cord, through the eyes, over the ears at the time of delivery or at the time of bathing / cleaning fluid or infants with less tool clean.
Judging from the growth and development of infants, the neonatal period is the most critical period. Prevention of asphyxia, maintaining body temperature, especially in infants of low birth weight, breast-feeding in an effort to reduce mortality due to diarrhea, prevention of infection, monitoring of weight gain and psychological stimulation is a fundamental duty to monitor the health of infants and children. Neonates in the first weeks is strongly influenced by the condition of the mother during pregnancy and childbirth.
Good management at the time was still in the womb, during labor, immediately after birth, and subsequent monitoring of growth and development will result in a healthy baby.
